Hi, I’m Karin — the artist, dreamer, and detail-obsessive behind Modern Scapes Sketches.

I’ve always been drawn to the places that tell stories — the corner café with the hand-painted sign, the grand hotel lobby frozen in time, the wedding barn draped in fairy lights. My sketches are my way of freezing those moments and honoring the architecture that holds them.

Based in Chicago, I work with clients across the country to create custom, hand-drawn illustrations that become heirlooms. Whether you’re a bride wanting your venue captured forever, a restaurant owner looking for a signature piece of wall art, or someone who simply loves original artwork — I make it personal, every time.

My process is collaborative and unhurried. We talk about what the space means to you, I do my research, and then I draw. Each piece is done by hand — no shortcuts, no digital filters. Starts with a photo for inspiration and then the creation begins with pen, ink, charcoal, pastels, acrylic (mixed Media) and a whole lot of love for the built world.
